According to the central government, to make life easier for retired employees, it has been decided to integrate Electronic Pension Payment Order (e-PPO) with DigiLocker through Public Finance Management System (PFMS). Ministry said that from this system any pensioner can get instant printout of copy of PPO from his DigiLocker account.

Digilocker is an important part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India program. Through this internet-based service, you can keep important documents like birth certificate, passport, educational certificate online.

The purpose of the DigiLocker scheme is to reduce the paper form of documents. Apart from this, it is also a motive to increase the trend of exchange of e-documents between agencies.
You can scan your documents and upload them on DigiLocker. In addition, they can be signed using digital e-sign service. These digitally signed documents can be shared with government organizations or other institutions.
Why PPO number is important
As a pensioner, it should be kept in mind that the pension payment order number is entered in your passbook. Many times it happens that bank employees do not enter PPO number in the passbook of the pensioner.
In case of transfer of pension account from one branch to another branch, when there is no PPO number in the passbook, it can cause problems. Due to this, pension can also be delayed.
Apart from this, if you lodge a complaint related to your pension in EPFO, then it is mandatory to give you PPO number here too. PPO number is also required to know online pension status.
How to get PPO in case of loss
For PPO, you have to go to the EPFO website. Go to https://www.epfindia.gov.in/site_en/index.php. In the ‘Online Services’ section on the left side, click on the option of ‘Pensioners Portal’.
After clicking, a new page will open. On this page, you know ‘Your Your PPO No.’ Click on the option.
Now you have to enter your bank account number, which is linked to your pension fund. Or you can search by entering your PF number, also known as Member ID. After successful submission of details, PPF number will be shown on screen.
The 12 digit PPO number is a reference number, which the Central Pension Accounting Office has to carry out any communication. The PPO number must be entered in the pensioner’s passbook.
