Public Holiday: Half of September has passed, but there are still many holidays left, meanwhile, changes have been made in the Milad-un-Nabi holiday in many states of the country. Due to which, holiday has been declared on 17 September instead of 16 September in many states. In states like Maharashtra, there is also a holiday on 18 September. The Tamil Nadu government declared a public holiday on 17 September instead of 16 September on the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi. The public holiday was declared under the provisions of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.
No holiday on 16 in Maharashtra too
The Maharashtra government on Friday changed the official holiday for Eid-e-Milad in Mumbai from September 16 to September 18. According to an official release, the decision was taken after the local Muslim community decided to take out Eid procession on September 18 instead of September 16 – to avoid any inconvenience during Anant Chaturdashi, the last day of Ganesh festival, which falls on September 17.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has said that there will be no trading in government securities, foreign exchange markets, money markets and rupee interest rate derivatives on September 18, 2024 as the Maharashtra government has declared the day as a public holiday. The state government has declared September 18, 2024 as a public holiday under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act of 1881.
Half-day holiday on 17 in Odisha
The Odisha government has declared a holiday in all schools and colleges in the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) area. The holiday has been declared due to the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bhubaneswar, where he will launch the Subhadra Yojana. According to a press note issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), all government offices in the capital city will also remain closed for the first half day on September 17.
Two-day holiday in Hyderabad
A long weekend is coming up for students in Hyderabad as many schools have announced a two-day holiday. Schools will be closed on Milad-un-Nabi 16/09/2024 and Ganesh Nimajjanam 17/09/2024, giving the city time to celebrate the festivities.
