Public Holiday: The day of 14 April 2025 will be recorded as a historic and honorable occasion for India, as the Modi government has declared this day as a public holiday across the country to commemorate the birth anniversary of the architect of the Constitution, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. This decision has been taken under an official memorandum issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (Department of Personnel and Training), Government of India, which was issued on 27 March 2025 from North Block, New Delhi.

Holiday will be applicable to all central government offices

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, fondly called Babasaheb, shaped the Constitution of India as well as tirelessly fought for social equality, upliftment of Dalits and underprivileged. His birth anniversary, which is celebrated on April 14, is not only an occasion to remember his contributions but also to imbibe his ideas and take steps towards an inclusive society. This year, as April 14 falls on Monday, this holiday will be applicable in all central government offices and industrial establishments across the country.

Holiday will be in these places

The official memorandum makes it clear that this decision should be conveyed to all ministries and departments, including UPSC, CVC, National Commission for Scheduled Castes/Tribes, National Human Rights Commission, Central Information Commission, and other important institutions. Along with this, all attached and subordinate offices, autonomous bodies, and units related to the Ministry of Public Grievances and Pensions have also been directed to observe this holiday. The announcement of this holiday has also been directed to be made available on the website of PIB, Shastri Bhawan, and DoPT for wide publicity.

During this holiday, schools, colleges, and government offices will remain closed, allowing people to remember the life of Babasaheb and his social reforms by participating in various events, seminars, and cultural programs. This holiday is not just a day off but an occasion that will promote awareness, equality, and unity in the society. This step of the Modi government reflects deep respect for Dr. Ambedkar and commitment to spread his thoughts to the masses, so that the country can move one more step forward towards realizing his dreams.
