Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh ordered waiver of user charges charged from small vendors in retail markets of fruits and vegetables in the state. This exemption is for the remaining seven months in the current financial year. According to an official statement, in the meeting held at the official residence of the Chief Minister, Punjab Mandi Board Chairman Lal Singh raised the issue of fee levied on small vendors. Amarinder Singh decided to exempt small sellers from user charges of retail markets from September 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022.
Mandi Board’s treasury will be affected
According to Lal Singh, around 34 fruits and vegetables run by market committees (MCs) across the state were given to small vendors of retail markets. This necessary relief will affect the treasury of Punjab Mandi Board about Rs 12 crore. Why is the fee collected
A total of 27 municipalities have awarded contracts for collection of user fee through e-tendering and the remaining committees collect such fee for providing various facilities to the rehri and farhi vendors individually.
Sugarcane farmers assured to increase MSP
Amarinder Singh on Tuesday told farmers demanding a hike in sugarcane prices that the price of the cash crop would be increased to Rs 360 per quintal. After this the protesting farmers withdrew their agitation. The Chief Minister, after a meeting with farmer leaders, announced an increase in the State Advisory Price (MSP) of sugarcane by Rs 35 per quintal.
Along with a good market, other facilities are also provided for the farmers in the market. Like water, toilets, parking arrangements, car parking are arranged by the government itself.
