New Delhi. Railway fare is the lowest in the country. Train fare is much cheaper than bus fare. The biggest reason for the low fare of railways is the subsidy given by the government on passenger fare, but do you know how much subsidy the Railways gives to the passengers on the fare. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav answered this question in Parliament on Wednesday. He said that every railway passenger in the country is given a subsidy of 46 percent on travel tickets. While answering supplementary questions during Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, he also said that the Railway Ministry spends an amount of Rs 56,993 crore every year on subsidy for passengers.
Relief of Rs 46 on Rs 100
When asked about the possibility of restoration of subsidy earlier given to senior citizens and accredited journalists, Vaishnav said, “The total subsidy given to passengers by the Government of India is Rs 56,993 crore. For every Rs 100 travel service, the cost is Rs 54. A subsidy of 46 percent is given to passengers of all categories.”
Vaishnav also said in response to a supplementary question that in the same way as the entire country was connected by roads during the government led by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, small and medium railway stations of the country are being developed under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
