Now you do not need to cancel your ticket to change someone else’s name in your place or to change the date of travel.
Know the conditions for changing the name on the ticket
One thing that is important for you to know is that the facility of changing the name on the ticket is available only on offline tickets. That is, this facility is available only on the tickets that you have booked from the reservation counter. Another special thing is that on this ticket, you can change the names of only your close ones and family members in place of your name.
For example, you can change the name of your parents, siblings or son or daughter in place of your name. If a group of students or officers has booked their group ticket, then there is also an option to change the name.
Process of changing the name on the ticket
1. First of all, you have to go to the railway ticket reservation counter. Remember that it is necessary to reach 24 hours before the departure of the train. So go to the nearest railway reservation counter.
2. Then to change the name on the ticket, you have to apply in writing.
3. If the ticket is in your name, then you have to give the ID of both you and the person in whose name the ticket is to be booked at the counter.
4. Then after receiving all the necessary documents, the railway officer puts the name of the new passenger on the ticket.
Process to change journey date on ticket
1. If you bought the ticket offline i.e. from the counter, then 48 hours before the departure of the train, you will have to take the ticket and go to the reservation counter.
2. Then you can change the travel date by giving your original ticket at the counter or you will have to apply for it later.
3. After this, the railway employee present at the counter will change the date and give you another ticket.
The facility to change the date or name is not available on tickets purchased online. Another important thing is that the option to change the date of travel is available only on confirmed or RAC tickets. That is, this facility is not available on Tatkal tickets. The date of travel can be changed only once for a passenger and that too only if there is availability.
