It is mandatory to buy a ticket to travel by train, not doing so is considered a violation of railway rules. How much penalty in which situation?

  • If a person is caught travelling without a ticket, then according to the railway rules, he may have to face a jail term of up to six months or a maximum fine of Rs 1,000. The minimum amount of the fine is Rs 250, which also includes the price of the ticket for the distance travelled by the offender.
  • Suppose you have taken a sleeper coach ticket and you travel in an AC coach. In this situation, if caught, the person will have to pay the difference between the fare of the AC coach and the fare of the sleeper coach. Apart from this, additional penalty charges can also be levied by the TTE.
  • If you have booked a ticket online, then you must have an ID card with you during the journey. If you do not give your ID to the TTE, then the TTE can consider you as a ticketless person and charge you a penalty.
  • If someone travels in a train after drinking alcohol or drinks alcohol during the journey, then he will be deboarded from the train, apart from this, a fine of Rs 500 will be imposed on that person and he will also be jailed for six months.
  • If you are young and are caught traveling without a ticket, then you may have to pay a minimum penalty of Rs 250 or additional fee or both.
  • According to Section 141 of the Indian Railway Act, anyone who stops the train by pulling the emergency chain without any reasonable reason can face imprisonment up to one year or a fine of up to Rs 1,000 or both.
  • According to the rules of the Railways, no one is allowed to smoke in the train and a fine of Rs 200 can be imposed if caught doing so.
  • If anyone crosses the railway track or enters the platform without a ticket or permission, he or she can be fined Rs 1,000 or jailed.
