Railway platform tickets are now out of the purview of GST, Finance Minister announced

Facilities like buying platform tickets at railway stations and staying in dormitories have been exempted from GST. Now there will be no GST on such facilities. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman gave this information on Saturday. She informed about the decisions after the GST Council meeting on Saturday.

The GST Council has taken a big decision on the services provided by the Railways to the general public. Apart from buying platform tickets at the railway station, facilities like dormitory, waiting room, clock room and use of battery operated vehicles have been excluded from GST. Now there will be no GST on such facilities. GST will not have to be paid even on providing hostel facilities. GST will not be payable on hostels run by a particular society if a person stays there continuously for 90 days. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman gave this information on Saturday. To reduce government litigation, the GST Council has recommended a monetary limit of Rs 20 lakh for the GST Appellate Tribunal, Rs 1 crore for the High Court and Rs 2 crore for the Supreme Court for filing appeals on behalf of the department. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said this after the GST Council meeting on Saturday.

12% GST proposed on all types of milk cans

After the 53rd GST Council meeting, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, “The Council has recommended a uniform GST rate of 12% on all milk cans. This means that the new rates will be applicable on all cans made of steel, iron, aluminum which will be used as milk cans. The Council has also recommended a uniform GST rate of 12% on all carton boxes, corrugated and non-corrugated paper or paper board. This decision will especially benefit the apple farmers of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. According to the Finance Minister, the Council has also clarified and recommended that 12% GST will be levied on all types of sprinklers including fire water sprinklers.

This recommendation was made related to the Appellate Authority

The Council has also recommended that the maximum amount of pre-deposit for filing an appeal before the Appellate Authority is Rs 25 crore CGST and Rs 25 crore CGST This is the maximum amount of pre-deposit for filing an appeal before the appellate authority. The Council has also decided to amend the provisions of the CGST Act and recommended that the three-month period for filing an appeal in the GST Appellate Tribunal will commence from the day which will be notified by the government. The Finance Minister informed that the Chairman of the Tribunal has taken charge. He informed that the period for filing the tax filing appealed by the taxpayers will end on August 5, 2024. The Finance Minister informed that this time there was no discussion on online gaming in the GST Council meeting.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary got this responsibility

After the 53rd GST Council meeting, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman informed that Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has been made the Chairman of the GoM of Rate Rationalization. In the next meeting, Samrat Chaudhary will present a status report on the work done for this.” After this, the work of rationalizing the rates will begin. The Finance Minister said that to benefit small taxpayers, the deadline for filing GSTR 4 has been extended to June 30. Facility has been provided to make changes in GSTR 1. A new form will be introduced in the name of GSTR 1 A.
