Railway Rules: Big News! Seats are reserved separately for women of this age, Railway Minister revealed

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav told the Lok Sabha that lower berths are reserved in trains for women above 45 years of age, senior citizens and Divyang passengers. There is a fixed quota of seats in Sleeper AC-3 and AC-2. Pregnant women are also entitled to this facility. If seats remain vacant, then these passengers are given priority. The automated system of railways is applicable in all trains.

New Delhi. Railways has clarified that special seats are arranged in trains for senior citizens, women above 45 years of age and disabled people during travel. Some lower seats are reserved for them in coaches of different classes. They are given this facility even if the option of lower berth is not chosen during booking. Pregnant women are also entitled to this facility.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav was answering a question related to this in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. He said that efforts are made by the Railways to provide maximum facilities to passengers of different classes. If the lower seats are vacant in trains during travel, then senior citizens, disabled and pregnant women have the first right on it.

Automatic system for seat booking: Railway Minister

The Railway Minister said that this is an automated system of the Railways. For this, there is a provision of lower berth reservation in different coaches. Six to seven seats are reserved in each coach of the sleeper class. Similarly, four to five seats in AC-3 and three to four lower berths in AC-2 are reserved.

“This facility is more or less according to the number of coaches in a train. The Railways tries to ensure that maximum number of passengers get the benefit. There is reservation quota for Divyang passengers in Mail-Express, Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains.”

How many seats are reserved?

The Railway Minister said, “Four berths are reserved in each bogie of Sleeper Class, four berths (including two lower berths) in Three AC and Three-E. Similarly, four seats are reserved in Second Sitting or AC Chair Car.”
