RAC ticket can go into waiting list and now strictness is being exercised in travelling on waiting ticket. It is natural for you to be shocked to hear this, but it is true. Indian Railways itself has given the reason for this. You should also know-
Railway Rules: Currently, there is a rush for trains to go home for Chhath Puja. Waiting tickets are not even available in many trains going to Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh. People who have RAC tickets are relieved that at least half a seat will be available in the train, where they will get to sit and complete their journey. So let us tell you that RAC tickets can go into waiting and now strictness is being exercised in traveling on waiting tickets. In this way, the dream of traveling on RAC can be shattered. It is natural for you to be shocked to hear this, but it is true. Indian Railways itself has given the reason for this. Let’s know-
Most people travel during festival season and summer holidays. On an average, 2.3 crore people travel by trains every day. This number increases by three to four times during the festive season. For convenient travel, people make reservations 60 days in advance (earlier this time limit was 120 days). RAC (Reservation against cancellation) ticket is given after booking a confirmed ticket. According to the rules of the railways, if a passenger cancels the ticket, then your RAC ticket will be confirmed in its place. Otherwise you will have to travel on half the side lower seat. Whereas you cannot travel on a waiting ticket.
Due to this, RAC can be converted to waiting list
Generally RAC gets confirmed, but during festival season or in some trains it is not confirmed. But sometimes there is a possibility of it going to waiting list. According to railways, if a coach of a train is found unfit at the last moment before the journey, it is removed due to safety reasons. After this there are two situations. Extra coach is not available or if available then it is of LHB’s ICF. It has less number of seats.
The entire RAC of the train can be affected
If the entire coach is not available then before chart preparation, the initial RAC is adjusted in lieu of cancelled seats and the remaining RAC of the entire train is put in waiting list. If ICF coach is available then RAC of that coach can be put in waiting list. Because in ICF there are total 72 seats in sleeper and 64 in third AC. Whereas LHB sleeper has 80 seats and third AC has 72 seats. Due to availability of coaches, it affects only that coach. Currently Indian Railways is running about 7500 extra trains. All the extra coaches have been installed in these trains.
Understand the meaning of RAC
RAC is (Reservation against cancellation). In this, if someone cancels the ticket, then your ticket will be confirmed. Till then you will have to travel on half the side lower seat. RAC seat is available for two people. If a passenger cancels his confirmed ticket, then the first passenger of RAC gets a confirmed seat. After this, the remaining second passenger can travel on the entire RSC seat.
There are 12 to 14 RACs in a coach
RAC is given to 12 to 14 passengers in a coach. This number is of third AC and sleeper. It depends on the size of the coach. Because ICF is a small coach and LHB is a big coach. In this way, 6 to 7 berths are for RAC.
