The railway station of India’s capital New Delhi is going to be closed by the end of this year.
This railway station will not be closed forever but will be closed for some time. The reason given behind this is re-development of the station. In the year 2013, a redevelopment plan for about 1300 railway stations in India has been prepared by the Railway Ministry. Under this re-development plan, New Delhi Railway Station will also be redeveloped. Trains will be shifted from New Delhi Railway Station
Under the redevelopment plan, New Delhi Railway Station is to be completely closed. By the end of this year the redevelopment work will have started. About 300 trains run daily from New Delhi Railway Station. At the time of all these redevelopments, these trains will stop running from New Delhi Railway Station. All these trains will be shifted to stations around New Delhi.
Trains will be available from these stations
Anand Vihar Railway Station – For eastbound passengers, trains will meet at Anand Vihar.
Sarai Rohilla Railway Station – Trains going to Punjab and Haryana can be shifted to Sarai Rohilla.
Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station – Shift towards Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Gujarat can be done at Delhi Cantt and Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station.
Ghaziabad Railway Station – Along with this, some remaining trains can be shifted to Ghaziabad.
May remain closed for four years
As part of the redevelopment work, the railway station will be completely redesigned. And this work may take a long time. Earlier the idea was to do this re-development work together. But now it can be done in different phases. Information regarding this was given in the Railway Ministry budget for the year 2023. The redevelopment work of New Delhi Railway Station may take about four years to complete. That means the railway station is expected to remain closed for about 4 years.
