Parcel booking is closed at major stations of the capital from 12th to 15th August. But there is an option through which goods can be transported from other states. Know more here.

New Delhi. Keeping Independence Day in mind, Indian Railways has stopped booking of parcels from five major railway stations of the capital Delhi. From 12th to 15th August, no goods will come to Delhi from any state nor will they be sent. Due to this, common people along with businessmen may face the most trouble, but there is definitely an option, through which goods can come and go from other states. Know here.

At present, thousands of tonnes of parcels move daily from the capital to various states of the country. The five major stations include New Delhi, Old Delhi, Anand Vihar, Hazrat Nizamuddin and Sarai Rohilla. Most of the goods are booked from New Delhi and Old Delhi. Sending goods by trains is cheaper than by road. That is why businessmen send goods by train.

According to Northern Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer Himanshu Shekhar, passengers can carry luggage with them as per the prescribed limit between 12th and 15th August. Booking will start again at the stations after 12 midnight on 15th August.

This could be an option

Booking is closed at major stations of Delhi but booking is not closed in nearby NCR cities. Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gurugram are such stations where trains going to and coming from various cities stop. During this time, people can transport goods to these stations by road. After this, goods can be sent to various cities of the country by booking.

Parcel checking has started now

To ensure that there is no suspicious thing in the parcels at the railway station, GRP and RPF are checking the parcels kept at the stations with metal detectors. So that no suspicious thing can reach Delhi through parcels before Independence Day.
