Lower Berth Rules: The first choice of most people is the lower berth. However, the railways have made some rules for traveling on the lower berth. Let’s know what are the rules for this and who gets these seats.
Lower Berth Rules: It is often seen that people unaware of the rules of the railways either remain troubled during the journey or trouble other passengers. Especially there is a lot of confusion among the passengers regarding the rules related to middle and lower berths. Due to which sometimes passengers even start fighting among themselves. The favorite seat of most people is the lower berth or side lower berth. It is also very important to know the rules related to it before traveling on the lower seat, so that you or other passengers do not face any problem during the journey because of you.
You can sleep only from 10 pm to 6 am
If you have a lower seat, then according to the railway rules, the passenger with the middle berth cannot disturb you by opening his berth before 10 pm and after 6 am. It is often seen that the passenger with the middle berth opens it as soon as the train starts. Due to which the passenger with the lower berth faces a lot of trouble. According to the railway rules, the passengers with the middle berth cannot do this during the day. The passenger with the middle berth can sleep by opening his berth only from 10 pm to 6 am.
Seating space will have to be given during the day
According to the railway rules, the passenger travelling on the side lower berth will have to give seating space to the passenger on the side upper berth during the day. According to the railway rules, if two RAC passengers are already travelling on the lower berth, then also they will have to give the seat to the person on the upper berth.
What if the passenger refuses…?
It has been seen many times that some passengers are unaware of the rules while travelling in the train. Due to which the situation becomes serious many times. Railways has made special rules to avoid such a situation. If a passenger insists on opening the middle berth before or after the stipulated time, then he can be stopped from doing so. You can complain about this to the TTE. TTE can stop that passenger from doing this with the help of railway police.
Lower berths have been reserved
Lower berths are the first choice of most people. But, according to the latest information, the railways have now reserved the lower berths for people of certain categories. The railways have reserved the lower berths of the train for Divyang or physically disabled people.
Seat can be changed during onboard ticket checking
Apart from this, Indian Railways gives lower berths to senior citizens without asking for them. For women aged 45 years or above and pregnant women, 6 to 7 lower berths are reserved in the sleeper class of the train, 4-5 lower berths in each coach of third AC, 3-4 lower berths in each coach of second AC. The railways allots them lower berths even without selecting any option.
