Railways Journey Rule: If you travel on waiting ticket in railways, you should know these 8 rules.

More than 2 crore people travel by railways every day. In such a situation, many times passengers have to face problems due to lack of knowledge about the rules. If you also travel by train then you must know these eight rules.

Train Journey Rule: The history of Indian Railways is quite old. India has one of the longest rail networks in the world. The 177-year-old Indian Railways spans over 68,000 kilometres. Indian Railways is the first choice of most people for traveling.

According to statistics, about 2 crore 30 lakh passengers travel by train every day in India, which makes railways a major source of transportation. But most of these passengers would not know about the rest of the rules except a few rules of the Railways. Today we are going to tell you about eight such rules which you should know.

How to increase your destination station while traveling

Many times it happens that on the route on which we want a ticket, we do not get the ticket till our destination station, rather we get the confirmed ticket only till a few stations earlier. In such a situation, if you do not get a ticket for the final destination, you can book a ticket for an earlier destination in the same train.

After this, the TTE present in the train can issue you tickets for further stations. It is quite possible that the ticket may be for some other coach or seat.

What are the rules for middle berth?

Many times you will get a middle berth seat while booking tickets. In such a situation, you can never go and sleep on your seat or never lift the seat. Railways have made proper rules for middle berth.

According to the rules, a passenger cannot fold the berth during the day. Passengers can sleep on the middle berth only from 10 pm to 6 am. If a passenger exceeds the time limit, the lower berth passenger has the right to ask them not to do so.

Your seat is reserved for two stops even after the train leaves.

Sometimes you get delayed in catching the train due to which you miss the train. In such a situation, do not worry, your reserved seat has not gone waste. TTE cannot give your seat to anyone else till the next two stations.

According to railway rules, if a passenger is not able to board at his boarding station, then the Railways reserves that seat for that passenger till the next two stations from his boarding station.

Passengers cannot be disturbed after this time

According to railway rules, passengers cannot be disturbed after 10 pm, which is why TTEs are also required to check tickets before the scheduled time.

All lights except night lights in the coach need to be switched off so that passengers can rest.

What is the luggage limit in Railways?

Many people think that they can carry as much luggage as they want in the Railways and nothing will happen. However, it is not so, like flights, Indian Railways also has a luggage limit.

For AC coach reservations, you can carry a maximum of 70 kg of luggage, with a limit of 40 kg in sleeper class and 35 kg in second class.

You can carry 150 kg of hand luggage in AC class, 80 kg in Sleeper and 70 kg of bags and luggage in 2nd seating with additional luggage charge.

Can one travel on waiting list ticket or not?

If you buy tickets from the window counter, you can travel with a waiting list ticket. However, waitlisted passengers with e-tickets i.e. tickets booked through online mode are not allowed to board the train.

Refund of waitlisted e-tickets is done after chart preparation. If you are caught traveling in a train on a waiting list ticket, you will be treated as without ticket.

Don’t pull the chain unnecessarily

Indian Railways rules state that the alarm chain needs to be pulled only in an emergency, such as a medical emergency, a threat to passenger safety, an accident, or if a child, an elderly or disabled person, or a companion is left behind. You can be fined heavily for pulling a chain except in an emergency.

Fixed price of packaged food items

The governing body of the Railways has set rules regarding pricing of packaged food items like snacks, meals and beverages in trains so that passengers are not overcharged.

If a vendor is found to be behaving unethically, he can be reported, which could lead to heavy fines or see his license cancelled.
