What is the discount on ticket fare for which diseases?
Cancer
- If a person is suffering from cancer and wants to go to another city by train for treatment, then Railways gives up to 100 percent discount on tickets to that passenger and his companion traveling in SL/3A class. .
- Up to 75 percent discount is available on tickets in 2A/CC. There is a 50 percent discount on tickets in 1A/2A.
Thalassemia
- If a person has Thalassemia and wants to go to another city via train for treatment, then Railways gives 75 percent discount in 1A/2A/3A/SL/CC classes.
- Apart from this, it gives 50 percent discount in 1A/2A. Railways does not give 100 percent exemption for this disease. Note here that this discount is available on the tickets of the patient as well as his/her companion.
Heart surgery
In 1A/2A/3A/SL/CC class, the patient and his companion get 75 percent discount. 50 percent discount is available in 1A/2A.
Operation/Kidney Patient (Dialysis)
In 1A/2A/3A/SL/CC class, the patient and his companion get 75 percent discount. 50 percent discount is available in 1A/2A.
TB
In 1A/2A/SL class, the patient and his companion get 75 percent discount.
Anemia
In 2A/3A/SL/CC class, the patient and his companion get 50 percent discount.
Hemophilia
In 1A/2A/3A/SL/CC class, the patient and his companion get 75 percent discount.
Leprosy patients who do not have infection
In 1A/2A/SL class, the patient and his companion get 75 percent discount.
Which disabled people get how much discount in fare?
Mentally weak
Such persons with disabilities traveling in 1A/2A/3A/SL/CC classes and their accompanying companions get 75 percent concession in ticket fare. There is a 50 percent discount on tickets in 1A/2A/MST.
Blind
Such persons with disabilities traveling in 1A/2A/3A/SL/CC classes and their accompanying companions get 75 percent concession in ticket fare. There is a 50 percent discount on tickets in 1A/2A/MST.
Def-mu
- 50 percent discount is given on tickets in 1A/2A/SL/MST/QST.
- Note that 25 percent discount is given on 3A/CC tickets of trains like Rajdhani and Shatabdi.
What documents will be needed
If discount is required on ticket fare, sick passengers will have to submit a copy of the medical certificate and disabled passengers will have to submit a copy of the disability certificate along with the ticket.
Where to get tickets from
If you want to avail this discount then you will have to go to the reservation counter and buy the ticket. This facility is not available online. However, a disabled person can book train tickets online with his disability certificate.
However, this benefit will be available only when the journey is more than 300 km. After getting the relaxation, if you want to get down somewhere in between then you will have to inform TTE about it.
