According to Northern Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer Deepak Kumar, currently all premium trains like Vande Bharat, Shatabdi, Rajdhani, Tejas have pantry cars. People traveling in these trains do not face any problem, although many superfast and express trains also have pantry cars, but the most problem is faced by the passengers traveling in special trains.
Actually, these special trains run mainly during Holi, Diwali, Thapa, Rakshabandhan and summer holidays. That is, they do not run regularly. Due to this, passengers traveling in trains face problems in food and drink. Out of compulsion, these passengers have to take food from vendors selling food in trains. Many times unauthorized vendors board trains and sell food, which is expensive and the quality is also not good. Also, the carts of railway vendors are not set up at all stations, this facility is available only at big stations and in many places big stations are far away. Passengers traveling in trains should not face any problem during this time. Keeping this in mind, Indian Railways has decided to produce 110 pantries in the next two years. In this way, 55 pantry cars will be ready in the year 2024-25 and 55 in 2025-26, which will be installed in trains.
That’s why there is no pantry car in special trains
According to Deepak Kumar, it is not possible to install pantry cars in all special trains. Indian Railways does not have that many pantry cars. Pantry cars are installed in some special trains. For other special trains, arrangements are made to install vendor carts on the platform outside the coach, so that passengers do not face any problem regarding food and drinks during the journey.
