Weather Update IMD Forecast: Snowfall in the hilly states of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh has caused severe cold in the plains. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that a western disturbance and a cyclonic circulation will be active till January 12. Due to this, there will be light, moderate and heavy rains along with stormy winds in 10 states. At the same time, dense fog will prevail in some 18 states and cold wave will make people shiver in some places.
According to the Meteorological Department report, a trough is blowing in the western winds in the middle and upper troposphere. Due to their effect, a cyclonic circulation has formed in northeastern Assam. A fresh western disturbance and easterly winds can affect northwest India between January 10 and 12. A cyclonic circulation is located over the southeast of the Bay of Bengal and the adjacent equatorial Indian Ocean in the lower troposphere. Another cyclonic circulation is located in northern Tamil Nadu and its surrounding areas.
Clouds will rain in these states
According to the Meteorological Department, due to these weather conditions, there is a possibility of sporadic hailstorms in the northeastern state of Assam from today till January 12. Light to moderate and sporadic to heavy rains and snowfall are likely in western India. Light to moderate rains with winds are likely in the Himalayan region and the plains of Northwest India.
Thunderstorms are likely to occur at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh till January 12. Scattered hailstorms are also likely in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan on January 11 and Uttarakhand on January 11-12. Heavy rains with thunderstorms are likely at isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Mahe and Karaikal on January 11 and 12.
Fog will prevail in these states
According to the Meteorological Department, cold wave is likely to prevail in different parts of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab on January 9. Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh will also be affected by cold wave tomorrow and day after tomorrow. Dense fog will prevail in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh till January 10. On January 9, dense fog is likely to persist in different areas of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during night/morning.
Fog may prevail in Himachal Pradesh and Bihar till January 11, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha till January 10, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till January 13. Cold day is likely in different parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh on January 9. Frost is likely to fall on the ground in different parts of Himachal Pradesh on January 9.
