This cyclone can intensify further by 27 November and move towards the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu. The department has predicted heavy to very heavy rains in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh between 26 and 30 November. At the same time, there is a possibility of dense fog in North India.

Extremely heavy rains expected in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry

Tamil Nadu and Puducherry may receive extremely heavy rainfall on November 26 and 27. Along with this, moderate to heavy rains are likely to continue in these areas from November 28 to 30. The department has advised to be prepared for local floods and waterlogging, especially in urban areas.

Heavy rain warning in Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema too

Heavy rains may occur in parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema between November 28 and 30. In particular, wind speeds may reach 60-80 kmph in the southwest and west-central Bay of Bengal. The deep pressure area formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal may turn into a cyclonic storm by Wednesday and may cross the coast of Sri Lanka and move towards Tamil Nadu in the next two days.

Deep pressure area is forming

In the latest information released at around 12 noon on Tuesday, the Meteorological Department said that by 8.30 am on Tuesday, the deep pressure area was centered about 310 km south-east of Trincomalee, 710 km south-southeast of Puducherry and 800 km south-southeast of Chennai.

IMD said, “It is very likely to continue moving north-northwest and turn into a cyclonic storm on November 27. After this, it will continue to move in the north-northwest direction towards the coastal area of ​​​​Tamil Nadu, crossing the coast of Sri Lanka in the next two days.”
