Rainfall Alert: The weather has once again turned foul. Chennai and its surrounding areas have been receiving torrential rains since last night. Due to this, the administration had to order the closure of schools in the city for Tuesday. According to the Chennai-based Regional Meteorological Center (RMC), cyclonic circulation of air will prevail over the Bay of West Bengal. Due to this, rain has been predicted for a week from November 11. The cyclonic circulation is likely to move slowly westwards towards the Tamil Nadu/Sri Lanka coasts during the next two days.

Moderate to heavy rains occurred at many places in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Villupuram, Puducherry and Karaikal region. In view of this, Chennai District Collector Rashmi Siddharth Jagade declared a holiday in schools on Tuesday. However, colleges are functioning as usual. At the same time, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected at different places in Telangana from November 12 to 16. The Meteorological Center said that the weather is expected to remain dry in the state during the next 48 hours.

Western disturbance active in Himachal, chances of rain

Currently the weather is dry in Himachal Pradesh. However, the western disturbance has become active in Jammu and Kashmir. Its effect can be seen in the high altitude areas of Lahaul-Spiti, Chamba, Kangra till late Monday night. Light snowfall may also occur in high altitude areas. Kuldeep Srivastava, Director of Meteorological Center Shimla, said that due to the western disturbance becoming active, the temperature may drop by 3 degrees in some districts in the coming days. Another western disturbance is becoming active in northern India on November 14 and 15, due to which there is a possibility of light rain once again in Chamba, Kangra, Lahaul-Spiti and snowfall in high altitude areas. There has been negligible rainfall in the state since the monsoon left. Due to this, 95 percent less rainfall has been estimated in October and there has been no rain anywhere in November as well.
