IMD Latest Updates on Monsoon Date: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that this year the monsoon season will start soon. IMD has also announced its date in its forecast. According to the IMD report, the south-west monsoon is likely to begin in Kerala around May 31. A new round of heat wave is likely to start in North-West India from May 16 and in Eastern India from May 18.
Rainfall Update: The southwest monsoon generally arrives in Kerala by June 1 and has a standard deviation of about 7 days. According to IMD forecast, this year’s south-west monsoon may hit Kerala around 31st. There can be a difference of four days less or four days more. This date acts as an important indicator for monsoon across the country. Moving towards the north provides relief from the scorching heat.
According to IMD forecast, monsoon is likely to reach Andaman Nicobar on May 19. Usually it enters this zone around 20th to 22nd. After reaching here, monsoon will move towards other parts of the country. According to the Meteorological Department, the El Nino weather system is weakening in the country. La Nina conditions are becoming active. This is a sign of good monsoon this year. Due to this, monsoon may arrive in India before time.
Temperature will increase by four degrees
According to IMD, hot and humid weather is expected in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Bihar on Thursday. During the next four days, maximum temperatures are likely to rise by about 3-4 degrees Celsius over many parts of northwest and eastern India, by about 2-4 degrees Celsius over Central India and Gujarat.
Severe heat expected in North-West India
There are chances of heat wave in North-West India from Thursday and in Eastern India from May 18. According to IMD, heat wave is expected to continue till May 16-19 in West Rajasthan, Punjab, South Haryana, East Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and isolated areas of Bihar, Gujarat. Heat wave is expected in Konkan on 15-16 May, Saurashtra and Kutch on 16-17 May, Delhi, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha on 18-19 May.
Thunderstorm forecast till May 20
Meteorologists said that there are chances of thunderstorm, heavy rain or shower with lightning in South Peninsular India till May 20. Heavy rainfall is expected over isolated areas in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, Coastal and Karnataka from Wednesday to May 19. Heavy rain is expected at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh from 16-19 May, Assam and Meghalaya from 17-19 May. Southwest Monsoon is very likely to advance into South Andaman Sea, parts of Southeast Bay of Bengal and Nicobar Islands on May 19.
