Rainfall Alert: There will be heavy rains in these states till December, IMD has issued an alert

It is also known as the winter monsoon. According to the IMD, Rayalaseema, Yanam, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and south interior Karnataka will receive rainfall. This is the main rainy season for Tamil Nadu. The state receives most of its rainfall during this period.

IMD Rain and Weather Updates: Although the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from some states, there are still chances of more rain from the northeast monsoon. Southeastern peninsular India has been forecast to receive more than normal rainfall in the months of October-December. This assessment of the IMD is based on the output received from several global weather models. Let us tell you that during the southwest monsoon season between June and September, India received 108 percent rainfall, which is more than normal.

While issuing the forecast for the post-monsoon season, IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said, “During October-December, south-eastern peninsular India will receive an average rainfall of 334.13 mm, which is 112 per cent of the normal.”

It is also known as winter monsoon. According to the IMD, Rayalaseema, Yanam, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and south interior Karnataka will receive rainfall. This is the main rainy season for Tamil Nadu. Most of the rainfall in the state is recorded during this period.

Tamil Nadu and Puducherry may receive below normal rainfall due to La Nina over the equatorial Pacific Ocean. La Nina is known to suppress the northeast monsoon in India. “Tamil Nadu and Puducherry receive below normal rainfall during La Nina,” the IMD chief said.

IMD officials said the performance of the northeast monsoon will largely depend on intra-seasonal developments. The withdrawal of the southwest monsoon is likely to gain momentum during the next few days and rainfall is likely to stop from northwest and northern India.

The IMD said October will remain a rainy month across the country. An average of 75.4 mm of rain may occur over the whole of India during this month. However, the month of October may remain dry over Jammu and Kashmir and eastern India.
