Rainfall Update: The situation is worrying due to heavy rains in many cities of Maharashtra. Life has been badly affected due to waterlogging on the roads. It has been decided to keep schools and colleges closed in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. Mumbai Police has appealed to the people to be alert and take the warning issued by the Meteorological Department seriously. Railway operations have also been affected. According to the Meteorological Department, apart from Raigad, Ratnagiri of Maharashtra, heavy to very heavy rains may occur at isolated places in Konkan and Goa, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, East Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Marathwada, coastal Karnataka, Bihar. Heavy rains are also expected at isolated places in Rayalaseema, Gujarat region, Chhattisgarh, West Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Maharashtra, parts of Karnataka and Telangana.
Negligence or accident? Serious questions on the death of 45-year-old woman
Due to bad weather, news of the death of a woman in an accident in Mumbai also came to light. 45-year-old woman Vimal Gaikwad drowned in an open drain in MIDC area of Andheri. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials said that the Mumbai Fire Brigade rescued her and sent her to Cooper Hospital, but doctors declared her dead.
Railway operations disrupted, maximum speed of trains curbed
Due to torrential rains, the operation of Mumbai local trains running between Govandi-Mankhurd was also affected. The Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Central Railway said that after the water on the tracks decreased, the local trains of the Harbor Line resumed services at 11.23 pm. He said that trains are being run with caution to avoid any untoward incident. The speed has been restricted to a maximum of 25 km per hour.

Long queues of vehicles on the roads; people appealed to stay indoors
After heavy rains in Mumbai on Wednesday, waterlogging and traffic jams were seen in many parts of the city. A landslide occurred on the Mumbra bypass at around 11.30 pm. Pictures of waterlogging also emerged from Kurla East, Nehru Nagar, Chembur in Mumbai. Vehicles were also crawling on the Kurla bridge. Fire department official Swapnil Sarnobat said that people were troubled for about 3 hours due to the traffic jam. Mumbai Police has appealed to people to be cautious.

Stay at home; dial 100 in case of emergency
Mumbai Police announced a holiday in schools and colleges on its X handle. The statement said that the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Mumbai and suburbs. Due to this, all schools and colleges will remain closed on September 26. Mumbai Police said that Mumbaikars have been appealed to go out only if it is very necessary. Police appealed to the citizens to stay indoors and dial 100 in case of any emergency.

He said that IMD has issued an orange alert for Pune district. Citizens have been advised not to leave their homes unnecessarily and to be cautious.

Railway passengers also faced problems due to heavy rains
Railway passengers also had to face a lot of trouble after the torrential rains in Mumbai. In the pictures and videos from near Chunabhatti railway station, passengers can be seen walking on the tracks and struggling to go to safer places.
Due to bad weather, Aviation Traffic Control (ATC) at Mumbai airport refused to allow 14 flights to land. Of the 14 flights that were diverted and landed at airports in other cities, nine were IndiGo flights. Two Vistara flights and one each of Air India, Akasa, Gulf Air were also diverted to other cities.
