While the air quality is likely to remain in the ‘very poor’ to ‘poor’ category for the next six days. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Friday canceled phase-III measures under the revised Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), which came into effect immediately in Delhi-NCR after the deterioration in air quality. However, actions under phase-I and II of the existing GRAP measures have been intensified to prevent the AQI from falling further.
What was said in the CPCB bulletin?
While revoking the GRAP III measures, the CAQM said the AQI is likely to remain in the lower end of the ‘very poor’ category in the coming days due to favourable meteorological conditions and strong wind speed. The prediction has been made based on air quality and weather forecasts provided by IMD/IITM. According to the daily bulletin of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s 24-hour average air quality index (AQI) at 4 pm on Sunday was 368 “very poor”, showing a rise of more than 100 points from 255 “poor” at 4 pm on Saturday. The Supreme Court set a revised limit of 350 for implementing GRAP’s phase 3, down from the earlier limit of 400. However, the AQI dropped to 360 by 8 pm, forcing the CAQM to delay the imposition of restrictions. GRAP Phase 3 was cancelled on January 16 after Delhi’s AQI remained below 300 for the second day.
