The Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that it will cross the coast between Puri in Odisha and Sagar Island in West Bengal near Bhitarkanika and Dhamra (Odisha) from the night of October 24 to the morning of October 25, 2024. During this time the wind speed can be from 100-110 kmph to 120 kmph, which can cause heavy destruction. A warning has been issued for very heavy rains at different places in Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal on 24 and 25 October 2024. Talking about the weather of the last 24 hours, heavy rains were recorded in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, South Interior Karnataka and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Hail also fell in many areas of Himachal Pradesh.

The depression over east central Bay of Bengal intensified into a deep depression at 5.30 pm yesterday and further intensified into a cyclonic storm DANA over the same region at 8.30 am today, 23 October. It lies about 520 km southeast of Paradip in Odisha, 600 km south-southeast of Sagar Island in West Bengal and 610 km south-southeast of Khepupara in Bangladesh. It is very likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm over northwest Bay of Bengal by 24 October morning.

The Meteorological Department has informed that heavy rains will start in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khorda districts of Odisha from October 23 and very heavy rains will occur in Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jaipur, Cuttack, Khorda, Puri etc. districts on October 24 and 25. Apart from this, light to moderate rains are likely at most places and heavy rains at some places in West Bengal on October 23. On the other hand, on October 24 and 25, very heavy rains are likely at some places in South and North 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Jhargram, Howrah, Hooghly, Kolkata and Bankura districts of the Ganges coastal areas of West Bengal.
