Rich people are also getting the benefit of the scheme
According to the Department of Food and Public Distribution, about 80 crore people across the country are taking advantage of the National Food Security Act. There are also many people among them who are financially prosperous, keeping in mind that the Ministry of Public Distribution is going to change the standards.
Know the reason for making the change
In this regard, according to Sudhanshu Pandey, Secretary, Food and Public Distribution Department, meetings are being held with the states for the last six months regarding changes in the standards. These standards will be finalized this month. After the implementation of the new standard, only eligible persons will get the benefit. Ineligible people will not be able to get the benefit. This change is being made keeping in mind the needy.
At the same time, till now the ‘One Nation, One Ration Card Scheme’ of the department has been implemented in 32 states and UTs till December 2020. About 69 crore beneficiaries i.e. percent of the population covered under NFSA are taking benefit of this scheme.
