Ration Card Update: Ration Card Rules Changing From February 1, OTP Required To Get Ration

As coronavirus has changed the way things are done, the government too has proposed a slight change in the Annapurna and Antyodaya scheme under which ration is distributed monthly to millions of people.

Earlier, the scheme used to make use of biometrics to identify and distribute food grains. But now the fact that biometrics are unsafe owing pandemic, they will no more be used. Now, the biometric user identification is all set to be replaced by IRIS Authentication and OTP on the registered mobile number.




Telangana is the first state to implement this rule and it will be enacted from Monday (February 1).

Hyderabad to provide ration via Mobile OTP

The Mobile One time Password (OTP) way of receiving ration is being implemented in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts. The Chief Rationing Officer of Hyderabad has informed that the ration will be distributed on Monday (February 1) from 670 fair shops to people via the Mobile OTP authentication method.

People will, likely, receive an OTP on their aadhaar-linked mobile number. which they will have to provide to get the ration. Thus, all the Ration cardholders in the state have been advised to link their phone number with Aadhar card in order to get the ration.

How to Apply for Ration Card Online?

To allow people get ration card digitally, the government has proposed many ways. The ration card is issued in two categories, one for the people living Below Poverty Line (BPL) and for non-BPL.

You can apply for a new Ration card by submitting an online application on the food portal of the respective state. For example, if you live in Uttar Pradesh, you can access the food portal from this website – https://fcs.up.gov.in/FoodPortal.aspx.

Then you will find a PDF form on this website, which you need to download. Also, you will need other documents including an Aaadhar card, driving license or any other photo ID card to generate a ration card.

Moreover, at the end of the process of getting a ration card online, you will have to pay an online fee between Rs. 5-45. Once the payment is done, the form is sent for verification. The field verification is done in 30 days.
