What is RBI MPC meeting?
MPC (Monetary Policy Committee) is a special committee of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which works to control interest rates and inflation in the country. In this meeting, it is decided whether the rate of loan (repo rate) given to banks will increase or decrease. This meeting of RBI is held once every two months. In this, it is decided whether the interest rates should be changed or not. This affects the loans of banks, EMI, inflation and the economic condition of the country.
Who all attend the MPC meeting?
MPC consists of a total of 6 members. These include 3 RBI officials and 3 experts selected by the government. The RBI Governor is the chairman of this committee.
What is the impact of the MPC meeting on the common people?
If the repo rate increases – bank loans become expensive, which increases the EMI. This helps in reducing inflation.
If the repo rate decreases – loans become cheaper, which leads to more purchases and money increases in the market.
If interest rates remain stable – then there is no major change, but RBI keeps an eye on the future economic situation.
