The rules of Reserve Bank of India say that if you ever get mutilated notes from the ATM, then you can easily change it from the bank. The bank does not have the right of refusal. How to change note?
For this, you have to go to the bank from whose ATM you have withdrawn money. By going there you have to write an application. In this, you will have to mention the date, time of withdrawal, from where the money has been withdrawn, its name. The ATM slip has to be shown along with the application and if the slip is not taken then the SMS will have to be shown on the phone, in which the debit information has been given.
Let us inform that in April 2017, the Reserve Bank of India had clarified in one of its guidelines that the bank cannot refuse to exchange mutilated notes. This is an order to all the banks that they will exchange mutilated notes of people in every branch.

Refusal will attract fine
In July 2016, the Reserve Bank had said in a circular that if banks refused to exchange bad notes, they would be fined Rs 10,000. This rule of RBI will be implemented on all branches of all banks.

The rules of RBI say that only the bank is responsible for the bad and fake notes coming out of ATMs. It is not even the responsibility of the agency that puts money in the ATM. If there is any defect in the note, then it should be investigated by the bank employee itself.
