West Tripura District of Tripura. A video of Shailesh Kumar Yadav, who was the DM here, went viral recently. On 26 April, he went to see the situation in Agartala city in the night curfew.
During this time, marriages were going on till after 10 pm. DM raided these weddings. In the viral video, DM Saheb was seen slapping Pandit, shoving the groom and raging on the guests. Some policemen were also seen in this video, lathi-charging the guests.
By the way, the DM’s intention was to strictly follow the rules of lockdown and night curfew. But in the matter of strictness, he became very rooted, treated the bride-groom and the guests very unfairly. The video came on social media and became a ruckus. Shailesh Kumar Yadav’s behavior began to be criticized.
The Tripura government set up inquiries in a hurry. Shailesh Kumar Yadav was removed from the post of DM of West Tripura and was sent on leave. However, he remained in other positions. A PIL and writ petition were filed in the Tripura High Court in this case. On April 26, one of the weddings where the DM raided, the father of the bride’s bride put this petition. A bench of Chief Justice Akil Qureshi and Justice SG Chattopadhyay heard the case. On 5 May, the Bench said that investigation of the case should be impartial, it is necessary that Shailesh Kumar Yadav be sent out of Agartala. After this, he was transferred to Belonia.
With this, the Bench also changed the committee that was investigating this case. Retired District Judge Subhash Sikdar has been included in this committee.
What happened on 26 April?
DM Shailesh Yadav went out on patrol in the city to follow the Corona protocol. Despite the night curfew in different marriage halls, the marriage was going on till 10 pm. A large number of people attended these weddings in violation of the Corona Guidelines. The band, Kettering was the arrangement of all. Neither social distancing was visible, nor was anyone seen in a mask.
As soon as DM entered the marriage hall, he shouted at every person who came in front of him, pushed him and started slapping him. DM was not ready to listen to anyone. When a woman showed a copy of the permission, she tore it, saying that the wedding ceremony is not allowed after 10 pm.

During this time, DM policemen were also seen getting annoyed constantly. That people are not following the corona protocol only because of their collusion. After complete action, DM said,
I have just come through two hospitals. When I saw the condition there, I thought that we would see what was going on in the city. I was surprised to see all this. The police car is standing here, but still all this is going on here. The police is also involved in this whole act. These people are educated, but still do not understand the responsibility. The same people will say on the outbreak of Corona that the government is not doing anything.
Later, DM Shailesh Kumar Yadav also apologized. He had said that if someone’s feelings have been hurt by his behavior, then he apologizes for it. He said that his intention was only to strictly follow the rules.
Shailesh Kumar Yadav is also a doctor
Shailesh Kumar Yadav is a 2003 batch IAS officer. He passed the UPSC examination in his second attempt. Earlier, he was selected in the police service. He was born on 23 June 1979 in Ambedkar Nagar, UP. Shailesh Yadav is a doctor by profession. He has done MBBS and MS before joining the civil service.
