Road Accident Free Treatment: The government has taken a big step to save the lives of those injured in road accidents. Secretary of Road Transport and Highways said that preparations are being made to provide cashless and free treatment to those injured in road accidents across the country.

Road Accident Free Treatment: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is preparing to start cashless treatment facility across the country for people injured in road accidents in the next three-four months. A top official gave this information on Monday. Road Transport and Highways Secretary Anurag Jain, while inaugurating a program organized on road transport here, said that the number of people losing their lives in road accidents in India is the highest in the world. To reduce this, the government is planning to provide immediate medical care to the victims.

Injured will get cashless treatment

Jain said, “Providing free and cashless medical care to people injured in road accidents is part of the amended Motor Vehicles Act, 2019. Some states have implemented it but now the Ministry of Road Transport in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare It is going to be implemented across the country.”

Along with this, the Transport Secretary said that the facility of cashless treatment for the injured will start across the country in three-four months. He said that under this scheme, it has been envisaged to provide cashless trauma care to the victims of road accidents in a suitable hospital nearest to the incident site. This step will be in line with the decision of the Supreme Court and the authority for this has come from the Motor Vehicles Amendment Act, 2019.

Relief will be available during golden hour

Jain said, “Cashless treatment to road accident victims will be provided in nearby hospitals during the ‘golden hour’ as defined in the Motor Vehicles Act.”

In order to save the lives of people injured in an accident, the time within one hour of the accident is considered very important and it is called ‘Golden Hour’ in the medical world. Along with this, Jain said that the ministry is also taking initiatives to educate and make people aware to reduce road accidents. In this sequence, the Education Ministry has agreed to include road safety in the curriculum of schools and colleges.

He said, “Several steps have been taken for changes related to engineering of vehicles, including signs reminding to wear seat belts and vehicle safety standard ‘Bharat NCAP’ has also been issued for the first time.”
