Government Sahkar Taxi Booking App: The Government of India has announced to start a big service in the country. Like Ola, Uber, Rapido, now a cooperative taxi service is going to be started.

Sahkar Taxi Service: The central government has announced the launch of a new cooperative taxi service ‘Sahkari Taxi’ on Thursday, 27 March 2025. Its objective is to provide bike, cab and auto services. The launch of this cooperative taxi service will challenge companies like Ola, Uber and Rapido present in the online taxi market. Home Minister Amit Shah announced this scheme and said that ‘the benefit from this service will not go to any big industrialist, but to the drivers’.

The aim of this move of the central government is to provide an alternative transport service, where drivers will be able to earn without giving benefits to big companies. Announcing this initiative in Parliament, Union Home Minister and Cooperative Minister Amit Shah said, ‘Sahkari Taxi will register two-wheeler taxis, auto-rickshaws and four-wheeler taxis across the country’.

Amit Shah said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Sahkar se Samriddhi’ is not just a slogan. To make it a reality, the Ministry of Cooperation has worked day and night in the last three and a half years. The Union Minister further said that the cooperative taxi service will be started in the coming months. Unlike private companies, this government service will ensure that all the earnings remain with the drivers, so that they can get more financial benefits.

Amit Shah said that apart from this, a cooperative insurance company will also be formed which will provide insurance services to the people in the country. He further said that in a short time it will become the largest insurance company in the private sector.

This service is available in these states

A similar service named ‘Yatri Sathi’ is already running in West Bengal, which was earlier available only in Kolkata. Now it has also expanded to cities like Siliguri, Asansol and Durgapur. Yatri Sathi also provides quick booking, information in local language, affordable fare and 24-hour customer support, making it a popular choice among passengers.

Kerala was the first state in the country to launch a government online taxi service ‘Kerala Sawari’ in the year 2022. Although it has been discontinued due to low usage, the state government is now planning to restart it with revised fares and better software.
