The country’s largest state-run bank State Bank of India (SBI) has cautioned its customers to link their PAN with Aadhaar to avoid any inconvenience in future. Through a tweet, SBI has informed its customers, “We advise our customers to link their PAN with Aadhaar to avoid any inconvenience and enjoy uninterrupted banking service.”
The tweet further states that it is mandatory to link PAN with Aadhaar. If PAN and Aadhar are not linked then PAN will become inactive and there will be problem in transactions. The last date for linking PAN with Aadhaar is June 30, 2021.

The Finance Ministry had said, “Keeping in mind the hardships of the taxpayers, the Central Government has issued a notification extending the last date for information of Aadhaar number and linking it with PAN to 30 June 2021.” The government has extended the last date for linking PAN-Aadhaar several times since July 2017.
PAN is mandatory for many financial transactions including opening bank accounts, depositing cash in bank accounts, opening demat accounts, dealing in immovable properties and dealing in bonds. Aadhaar is biometric based and cannot be obtained on the basis of any other identity document.
