According to the department, the depression formed in the southwest Bay of Bengal has rapidly taken the form of a deep depression and now it can turn into cyclonic storm ‘Fengal’ on Wednesday, 27 November. The effect of this storm will be seen in many areas of the state, due to which the rain situation can become more severe.
The Meteorological Department has informed, quoting the Chennai-based Regional Meteorological Center (RMC), that heavy to very heavy rains are likely in districts like Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengalpet and Cuddalore on November 27 and 28. Due to this, the administration has decided to keep schools and colleges closed in these areas. Holidays have been declared in Chennai, Chengalpet, Cuddalore and Mayiladuthurai from November 27.
Apart from this, schools and colleges will remain closed in districts like Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai and Tiruvarur due to bad weather conditions. Signs of the impact of rain were visible in these areas from Tuesday itself, and now this situation can become more serious.
