School closed: These days the eye flu is spreading rapidly. Adults are also falling prey to it along with children. The number of patients suffering from this has also increased in the OPD of the hospitals. This is the reason why many schools have appealed to the parents by messaging that if the child has symptoms of eye flu, then do not send them to school.

Due to which the schools in the capital Itanagar were closed for a week due to the flu. The Deputy Commissioner’s Office has announced the closure of all government and private schools (Nursery to Class 8) in the capital from July 25 to July 29. State’s Longding district administration has also ordered temporary closure of schools in Kanubari sub-division following outbreak of conjunctivitis, an eye infection. Bani Lego, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Longding, said that keeping in view the seriousness of the matter, the heads of all the schools falling under Kanubari and Lawnu educational development blocks are directed to temporarily close their respective institutions till July 29 to break the chain of the disease. The DC informed that according to the doctors the disease is highly contagious and can spread from one infected person to another.
Conjunctivitis is an eye infection caused by various viruses. Due to this disease, there is redness, itching, burning sensation in the eyes, tears come and grittiness is felt. This infection can spread easily through direct or indirect contact with eye secretions, contaminated objects or respiratory droplets of an infected person. Health officials have recommended frequent hand washing, avoiding touching the eyes, personal hygiene, disinfecting surfaces and isolating infected individuals until they recover, to prevent further spread of the disease.

Meanwhile, Longding DDSE Taje Jilen informed that the circular regarding closure of schools has been issued following the report of Kanubari Block Education Officer (BEO). He told that we do not have the data that how many students have been affected by this disease. Conjunctivitis outbreak has also been reported in several schools in West Siang district.
