School Closed: Keeping in view the heavy rains since midnight in many districts of the state, the district magistrates have ordered all government and private schools to be closed today.
School Closed: Due to heavy rains, all schools in the state of Tamil Nadu have been ordered to be closed today, June 19, 2023. Along with Chennai, schools in Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Chengalpattu in the state will also remain closed today. Keeping in view the heavy rains continuing since midnight in many districts of the state, the district magistrates have ordered closure of all government and private schools today.
In its official statement, the Tiruvallur district collectorate said, “Due to heavy rains, a holiday is declared for all schools in Tiruvallur district.” There is an alert for rain to continue in the state even further. Schools have been closed today in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Vellore and Ranipet. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of school children.
According to the Indian Metrological Department (IMD), heavy rains are expected in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpet, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Tirupathur, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore and Kallakurichi districts. In Tamil Nadu, school holidays have been declared at the last minute due to heavy rains as it often leads to traffic jams, water-logging and many other problems.
