School holidays extended: Severe cold continues to wreak havoc in UP. Melting and cold waves have disrupted people’s lives. In such a situation, school holidays are being continuously extended. On Wednesday, District Magistrates issued orders to keep schools closed till January 20 in many districts including Kanpur. Schools have also been closed till January 20 in Sonbhadra, Ballia, Ghazipur, Mau, Azamgarh, Mirzapur and Jaunpur. There is already a holiday in schools on Sunday 21st and 22nd on the occasion of inauguration of Ram temple. In such a situation, if the weather is fine then schools will be able to open from January 23 itself. Whereas in Varanasi and Bhadohi, schools up to class 8th have been closed till January 19. Earlier it was announced that schools would be closed till 17th.

Varanasi. The minimum temperature increased in Purvanchal on Wednesday but there was no difference in melting. People were seen shivering throughout the day amid the cold wave. Due to fog in some districts in the morning, there has been a widespread impact on road and rail transport. Minimum mercury in Sonbhadra increased by three degrees. The minimum temperature recorded here on Wednesday was 7.02 degrees Celsius. Similarly, minimum mercury was recorded at 5.02 in Jaunpur, seven in Mau-Azamgarh-Chandauli, eight in Ballia-Ghazipur-Varanasi, 8.04 in Bhadohi and nine degrees in Mirzapur. Due to no significant difference in maximum temperature in many districts, cold and thaw continue.

Meteorologists say that the cold has increased in Kanpur due to the lowering of the jet stream. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature was 14.4 and the minimum temperature was 6.0 degrees but there was no let up in winter. According to the Meteorological Department, there is no hope of relief in the next 24 hours. The cold wave started on January 11 and is still maintaining its pace. This caused more moisture in the atmosphere.

The attitude of the strong icy winds was very harsh. Continuous low temperature, high humidity and strong icy winds completely affected the body. Experts say that such persistent cold affects everyone. Due to this, there is a need for constant vigilance for animals. The effect of this cold will remain on the body until the temperature becomes normal.
