Eye Flue Update: Conjunctivitis (Eyeflu) is spreading rapidly in Nagaland, especially school children, three districts have closed schools for a week from Monday.

Nagaland News: Amid increasing cases of conjunctivitis (eye infection) in Nagaland, three districts of the state have closed schools for a week from Monday. Officials told that schools will remain closed till August 26 in Dimapur, Chumoukedima and Nuiland districts of the state.

Hoito Sema, state program officer of the National Program for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCB&VI), said that the Assam Rifles personnel had returned from leave in Phek district in July and the first case of eye infection was registered in them.

Dimapur district reported the maximum number of cases

The program officer said that since July 1, 1,006 cases have been reported in the state, which is the highest in recent times. He told that maximum 721 cases have been registered in Dimapur. After this, 198 cases have been registered in Kohima and 87 in Mokokchung. Sema said that there is a possibility of increasing cases of conjunctivitis or eye infection, as many district hospitals have not yet submitted the reports.

Virus spreading rapidly in children

Announcing the closure of schools, the Deputy Commissioners of Chumoukedima, Dimapur and Newland, in separate orders, said, cases of conjunctivitis (eye flu) are on the rise, especially among children. After consultation with the officials of Health Department and School Education Department, it has been decided that the classes in the school will remain suspended till the spread of infection is stopped. However, the Deputy Commissioners have appealed to the school authorities to find an alternative like running online classes during this period.
