Bihar Education Department has made changes and reduced the timings of schools. Let us tell you that the Chief Minister of the state Nitish Kumar had assured the Assembly to reduce the current school period of 8 hours. A few hours after this, the Education Department announced new school timings on Tuesday. According to the new time, it will be from 10 am to 4 pm (6 hours).
Circular issued late evening
Director of Secondary Education Kanhaiya Prasad Srivastava issued a circular late on Tuesday evening saying that now the new school timings will be from 10 am to 4 pm. The circular further states that this will be effective with immediate effect. Earlier in the day, Nitish Kumar assured the House that the current 8-hour school period from 9 am to 5 pm will be reduced by 2 hours in government institutions. He said that the new timing will be from 10 am to 4 pm.
Opposition members created ruckus
The Chief Minister’s assurance came amidst uproar in the Assembly by the opposition MLAs, who stormed into the House to protest against the current 8-hour school period, calling it “inhumane” and demanding that school timings for academic activities be extended to the morning. It should be from 10 am to 4 pm only and not from 9 am to 5 pm. After this, CM Nitish intervened and said on the current timing of the school, “This is wrong.”
CM Nitish called
CM Nitish said, “I will immediately call the competent officer of the department and instruct him to change the timings. You (opposition members) should have told me earlier. Now the new timing will be from 10 am to 4 pm.” The above time table was released during the tenure of the then Education Minister Chandrashekhar in the Grand Alliance government. He is an RJD MLA. Let us tell you that the Education Department had released a new time table for schools in November last year and it came into effect on December 1.
