School Timing Changed: In a major initiative, the Maharashtra government on Thursday directed that all pre-primary and primary schools in the state – government or private – start classes from 9 am in the interest of the health of students.
The decision comes two months after Governor Ramesh Bais raised concerns over the start of school classes at 7 am for children below 10 years of age.
The government took the decision after studying the timing change proposal, conducting surveys among parents and teachers, academic experts and others. The survey suggested the need to re-think about starting school classes at 7 am in cities and rural areas.
