Amidst the rain alert issued by the Meteorological Department, it has been decided to keep schools closed today (Monday), July 10, in many cities.
Schools Closed: In view of the continuous heavy rains, all the schools in the country’s capital Delhi and NCR cities Gurugram and Noida have been closed today (Monday), on 10 July. Apart from this, due to rain in Ghaziabad, schools will remain closed for two days and then till July 17 due to Kanwar Yatra. The administration had earlier announced closure of the school till Sunday due to the Kanwar Yatra.
Rain continues since Saturday in most parts of North and North-West India including NCR. Due to which incidents of water logging, flash floods and house collapse have come to the fore in various areas, due to which there has been loss of life and property.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that a notice has been sent to the heads of the city’s schools, stating that all government and private schools will remain closed for students on Monday. However, teachers have been instructed to go to school as before.
He said, ‘In view of the torrential rains since Friday and the Orange Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it has been directed that all government and private schools will remain closed for students on July 10 (Monday). Students should be informed about the holiday in advance so that they do not feel left out. All principals and teachers will attend schools as usual. All offices will also work.
Schools in Delhi’s neighboring Noida and Greater Noida will also remain closed on Monday. Gautam Budh Nagar District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma tweeted, “In view of the heavy rains in the district, classes 1 to 12 will remain closed in all schools of all boards in the district on July 10.”
Heavy rains have led to water-logging in many parts of Gurugram, causing traffic jams. The administration advised corporate offices to work from home on Monday and advised schools to declare a holiday.
District Collector and Chairman of District Disaster Management said, ‘All government and private schools (including play schools etc.) falling in Gurugram district are directed to remain closed tomorrow i.e. 10th July in the larger public interest and for the safety of the students. ‘
Due to rain in Ghaziabad, schools and colleges have been closed till Tuesday. However, the schools will not open before July 17 as the district administration has announced closure of schools till July 15, a Saturday, due to the expected arrival of a large number of Kanwar pilgrims. City Magistrate Shubhangi Shukla said that most of the roads in Ghaziabad have been closed for vehicular traffic for the convenience of the pilgrims.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Delhi received 153 mm of rain in 24 hours on Sunday, the highest for a single day in July since 1982. The interaction between a Western Disturbance and Monsoon winds is causing intense rainfall over northwest India, including Delhi, which received its first very heavy downpour of the season on Saturday.
