Schools Reopen: After being closed for three months due to winter holidays, schools in Kashmir were back on track on Monday (Kashmir Schools Reopen News). A bright sunny day made for an ideal environment for students to return to classes after a gap of three bone-chilling winter months.
Schools closed due to rain in plains and snowfall in higher areas
Officials said the schools, which were closed for winter vacation in December last year, were scheduled to open on March 1. However, the winter holidays were extended by three days due to rain in the plains and snowfall in the higher reaches.
Students looked excited to go back to school on Monday
Schools in the valley usually remain closed during this period as the temperature in the valley drops below the freezing point and vast areas remain covered with snow. Students, many of whom were feeling bored being confined to their homes for so long, looked excited to go back to school on Monday.
The children said this
Mohammad Hanan, a student of a private school here, said, “I am excited that schools are reopening. I am looking forward to meeting my friends and teachers after such a long time.” Momina, a secondary school student, said she was not confined to home during the winter holidays.
But going back to school had its own charm. “I used to go to tuition classes during winter vacations, but it didn’t feel like going to school there. I missed my teachers and friends,” she said.
Teachers now have a few days to assess their students’ preparedness with annual exams starting this weekend. Government school teacher Manzoor Ahmed said, “I am just hoping that all of them (students) have spent the winter holidays meaningfully.”
Educational institutions closed in snowy areas of Kupwara district
Exams for all classes are starting this weekend. Though schools opened in most parts of Kashmir on Monday, educational institutions remained closed in snowy areas of Kupwara district as authorities decided to extend the holidays by two more days.
