Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra: The Delhi government has again started the pilgrimage scheme, in which passengers will get many things from free accommodation to food.
Free Pilgrimage Scheme: Under the Chief Minister’s Pilgrimage Scheme, senior citizens will now get a chance to visit pilgrimage sites for free. The Delhi government has started this scheme again. This service has been started on 26 June. The special train will take more than 600 passengers from Safdarjung to Dwarkadhish. This is the 72nd trip under this scheme, which will allow passengers to travel without any fare.
The Kejriwal government had introduced this scheme in 2018. Under this scheme, citizens of 60 years and above are given the opportunity to travel for free. It was closed due to Kovid-19 and now it is being started again.
Pilgrims will visit these places
Initially there were five pilgrimage sites under this scheme, but with time many more pilgrimage sites were added. The train which left for Dwarkadhish on June 26 will return to Delhi on July 1. During their tour, the pilgrims will visit two Jyotirlingas of Dwarka and Gujarat, Somnath and Nageshwar. The last yatra under this scheme was done in 2022 to Jagannath Puri.
What things will be available for free
Under this scheme of Delhi government, free food, accommodation, cost of travel, which includes AC trains and accommodation, etc. will be given. However, if you buy anything other than this, it will not be given during this journey, you will have to pay for it from your own pocket. According to Arvind Kejriwal, more than 40,000 people have taken advantage of the pilgrimage scheme.
Where can the Chief Minister go under pilgrimage
Under this scheme, free senior citizens are offered to visit many places including Jagganathpuri, Rameshwaram, Kartarpur Sahib, Ayodhya, Velankanni, Shirdi, Mathura, Haridwar, Tirupati Balaji, Vaishno Devi. The Delhi government bears all the expenses on the pilgrimage including travel, food and accommodation charges. Facilities like paramedical staff and attendants are also provided during the journey.
Who can travel and how?
Senior citizens above 60 years of age can apply under this scheme. One person of age 21 years or more can accompany each passenger. Its expenses are also borne by the government. However, both should be residents of Delhi only. This scheme can be used only once in life. Citizens will have to submit their application through the e-district portal of the Delhi government.
