New Delhi: At present, the trend of films related to mythology is going on in Indian cinema. Especially, in South cinema, films made on history and mythology are very much dominated. After SS Rajamouli’s RRR and Mani Ratnam’s PS 1 coming out this month, yet another ambitious film from South Cinema is hitting the theaters.
The film is Shakuntalam, in which ‘Oo Antwa Girl’ Samantha Ruth Prabhu is playing the title character. The film is being released in South Indian languages as well as Hindi. Inspired by the Sanskrit play Abhigyan Shakuntalam by Mahakavi Kalidasa, the film will show the love story of King Dushyanta and Shakuntala. Its motion poster and release date were released on Friday. Dev Mohan will be seen in the role of King Dushyant in Shakuntalam.

A glimpse of these two characters has been shown in the first look motion poster of the film. Shakuntalam will release in theaters on November 4 in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi languages. The film is written and directed by Gunasekhar. Apart from Samantha and Dev Mohan, Allu Arha, Sachin Khedekar, Kabir Bedi, Dr. Mohan Babu, Prakash Raj, Madhubala, Gautami, Aditi Balan, Ananya Nagalla, Jisshu Sengupta will also be seen in important roles in the film.
Who are Shakuntala and Dushyant?
The story of Shakuntala is found in the Adiparva chapter of the Mahabharata. This story was presented in a dramatic adaptation by many scholars, but the most popular was Kalidasa’s Abhijnan Shakuntalam, which is also taught in literature. According to mythology, Shakuntala is the daughter of Maharishi Vishwamitra and Apsara Menaka.
Both had left the daughter near the hermitage of Kanva Rishi, who raised Shakuntala. Shakuntala and Dushyant met in the forest, where they had gone for hunting. Both fell in love and Gandharva got married. Both of them had a son named Bharat. This character is being played by Allu Arjun’s daughter Allu Arha.
Let us tell you, Samantha Pushpa became very popular for her special song Oo Antwa in The Rise. The film was also released in Hindi, which earned Samantha a lot of popularity in the Hindi belt as well.
