Preparations have been made by the District Health Committee to distribute Shagun kits to new couples. For this, four to five kits have been given to each ASHA worker. 240 ASHAs in urban areas and 624 ASHAs in rural areas will knock on the doors of the newlyweds and give the kit to the bride as an omen.
What is included in Shagun Kit
The Shagun kit will contain towel, bindi, mask, two handkerchiefs, comb, mirror, safety razor, nail cutter, marriage registration application, Shagun booklet, congratulatory message and a pouch and carry bag. Dr. Ravindra Kumar, Nodal Officer of Safe Motherhood and Child Scheme, said that the purpose of giving Shagun Kit to the bride is to make the new couples aware about family planning. The ASHA worker will also tell the bride about safe and unsafe days. Along with this, information will also be given about the method of taking contraceptive medicine.
Marriage registration application has also been provided in the Shagun kit by the Health Department. New couples have also been advised to register under the Special Marriage Act 1954 and the Hindu Marriage Act 1955. This registration can also be done by applying online on the website of the Stamp and Registration Department. Asha workers will also motivate new couples for marriage registration.
