SIM Card New Rule: If you are a mobile user, then there is an important news for you, because new rules can be implemented across the country from July 1. Its purpose is to stop those who commit online fraud and hacking. Let us know about this in detail..
New rules and regulations for mobile SIM cards have been issued. New rules have been issued by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on March 15, 2024, which will be implemented across the country from July 1, 2024. TRAI says that by changing the rules, incidents of fraud can be stopped. However, common users may have to face problems due to this.
What changed in the rules?
Under the new rules, mobile users who have recently swapped their SIM cards will not be able to port their mobile number. Let us tell you that exchanging SIM is called SIM swapping. SIM swapping happens when the SIM card is lost or broken. If this happens, you ask your telecom operator to replace your old SIM with a new SIM.
What will be the benefit?
TRAI says that such a step has been taken in order to prevent incidents of fraud. The new rule has been put in place to prevent fraudsters from resorting to SIM swapping or porting the mobile connection immediately after replacement.
What is SIM swapping?
In today’s era, SIM swapping frauds have increased, in which fraudsters easily capture your PAN card and Aadhar photo. After this, on the pretext of losing the mobile, they get a new SIM card issued. After this, the OTP received on your number reaches the fraudsters.
TRAI’s recommendation
TRAI has recommended the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to launch a new service in which the name of every incoming call is displayed on the mobile user’s handset, whether the name is saved in the contact list or not. With this, incidents of fraud can be controlled. But this has raised questions regarding privacy.
