SIM Card New Rule: New updates keep coming from time to time regarding the new rules of SIM card. In this episode, important information is being issued for mobile users. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has decided to change the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) rule. This rule is being implemented by TRAI to avoid SIM swap fraud. These rules will come into effect from July 1. TRAI has released the Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability Regulations, 2023 draft. It has been issued on the advice of the Department of Telecommunications.

In fact, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had issued new rules on 15 March 2024. These new rules will come into force across the country from 1 July 2024. On these rules, TRAI says that this will help in curbing the incidents of fraud.

These rules have changed for SIM card

If your SIM card is stolen or damaged, you will now have to wait a little longer to get a new SIM. Earlier, if your SIM card was stolen or damaged, you would get a SIM card immediately from the store. But now in this case, its locking period has been increased. Now users will have to wait for 7 days. Only after this will users get a new SIM card. According to the new rule, people who have swapped their SIM card recently will not be able to port their mobile number. Customers will be able to do this after 7 days. That is, after the change in the MNP rule, you will get a new SIM card only after the next seven days.

Why was the decision taken?

It was revealed in many cases that once the SIM card was stolen, the number was activated on another SIM card. After this, some other incident is carried out. Now this decision was taken with the aim of preventing such online scam incidents. A notification was issued by TRAI in March regarding this. Now users like Airtel, Vodafone Idea, Reliance Jio need to be alert.
