The government has blocked 6.69 lakh SIM cards and 1.32 lakh IMEI numbers to prevent cyber crimes. The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal has resolved 9.94 lakh complaints, leading to savings of Rs 3,431 crore.
SIM Cards Close: The government on Wednesday said that it has ‘blocked’ 6.69 lakh SIM cards and 1,32,000 IMEI numbers by November 15, 2024 in an effort to control cyber crimes. Minister of State for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur gave this information in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.
He said that such efforts are being made as part of a comprehensive strategy to deal with cyber crimes along with upgrading the capabilities of law enforcement agencies and judicial officers.
9.94 lakh complaints resolved – Government
The central government told the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal has helped in saving more than Rs 3,431 crore through the resolution of 9.94 lakh complaints.
The ‘Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System’ automatically sends cyber crime incidents to the concerned state-level law enforcement agencies for further action. The aim of the ‘cybercrime.gov.in’ portal is to enable immediate reporting of financial fraud and prevent diversion of funds by fraudsters. Minister of State for Food and Consumer Affairs B L Verma, in a written reply to a question, highlighted the effectiveness of the portal in dealing with financial cyber crimes.
The Home Ministry has issued advisories to all states and union territories to publicise the portal and its toll-free helpline number 1930.
