2.37 smart meters will be installed in urban areas

Let us tell you that smart meters will soon be installed in the homes of 2.37 lakh consumers in urban areas. The electricity department has started working on the plan regarding this. According to the information, smart meters will be installed in 40 sub-station areas in phases.

Electricity will be available through recharge

At present, consumers are not able to see the errors in the meter reading themselves whereas in smart meters, consumers will have complete details of their electricity supply. They will be able to recharge only for the amount of electricity consumed.

Benefits of smart meters

Smart meters will prevent electricity theft and will also provide relief from those consumers who do not pay their electricity bills. The special thing is that no additional charge will be taken from the consumer for this meter.

Fixed charges will not have to be paid

Earlier, some electricity consumers would get a bill for one month and some for two months. They also had to pay a fixed charge after getting the electricity connection. But now this will not happen. Consumers will have to pay as much electricity as they use.

Features of Smart Meter

Smart prepaid meter records electricity consumption every minute. It can be monitored through a mobile application. The application has the facility to alert about power cuts and reduced capacity. The meter has real time data, hence the meter evaluates electricity consumption correctly and bills are generated accordingly.

How does a smart meter work

Smart meters have an automatic switch that cuts off power when there are no units. When recharged, the balance increases and the switch allows power to flow again.
