Smriti Irani has recalled her old stories related to ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ and told that she used to get only Rs 1800 for her hit serial.

Talking about her initial days in the TV industry, Smriti Irani recently revealed in an interview to Neelesh Mishra that producer Shobha forbade her to drink tea on the sets for fear of damaging the furniture.
She said, ‘You don’t even look like a star, you look like a technician with that kind of lifestyle. I used to get 1800 rupees every day. When Zubin and I got married, we barely had Rs 30,000. I remember my make-up man, who used to get embarrassed and say, ‘Gadi to le lo mujhe sharm aati hai main gaadi pe aaya hoon aur Tulsi bhabhi auto mein aa rahi hai.’
Smriti Irani further told that she did not like all this and used to get irritated because the technicians and crew were not allowed to eat food on the set. Recalling an old anecdote, Smriti Irani said, a boy from the sound team did not take a break even after 12-15 hours and I gave her tea. But she refused to take it because those people were not allowed to drink tea on the sets. Then I made a setting with the spotboy to keep 60 teas ready and when I go out, she can drink the tea. I also used to travel like technicians, so I knew what they were going through. Shobha Kapoor allowed the actors and crew to have tea on the set only after seeing them drinking tea outside.
