Under this new updated policy, the role of USCIS has been determined in the applications related to employment, change of status, extension of period of stay in America and restoration of status of students in category F and M.

America has changed the rules for special category visa holders. These changes have been made for F and M category visa holders. Under this, US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has issued a new policy for studies in American educational institutions.

This new updated policy is related to the change in status of students, extension of their period of stay in the US and applications for restoration of status of students in category F and M. These new guidelines were issued on 20 December.

For example, it has been made clear in these new guidelines that students holding F and M visas should not have any intention of leaving their country of origin. But such students can get the benefit of Permanent Labor Certificate or Immigrant Visa.

Apart from this, it has also been said in these guidelines that students holding F visa can apply for extension in Optional Practical Training on the basis of their degree in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

It is known that out of about 10 lakh foreign students studying in America, more than 25 percent are Indian students.

Applicants are given F or M visa depending on the course of study in any educational institution in America. Under both types of visas, one can be allowed to stay in America for 60 months.
